Ieva Muraškienė appointed chair of the GÉANT Network Infrastructure Advisory Committee (NIAC)

During the recent GÉANT Association General Assembly held at TNC25, NORDUnet’s Ieva Muraškienė was appointed Chair of the GÉANT Network Infrastructure Advisory Committee (NIAC). This appointment reflects both Ieva’s strong leadership and NORDUnet’s continued commitment to collaborative development of European research and education networking. NIAC plays a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of GÉANT’s network evolution, ensuring that the European backbone remains robust, innovative, and aligned with the needs of the NREN community.

NIAC has become a cornerstone of governance for GÉANT’s infrastructure projects, providing expert guidance and consensus-driven input to support the development and deployment of an expansive and resilient pan-European optical fibre network. With increasing focus on critical international connectivity and infrastructure development, the work of NIAC is more important than ever. NORDUnet is proud to have contributed to this essential work for many years, and we are honoured that Ieva will now lead the committee in its continued efforts to advance European and global research networking.

Also appointed to NIAC were Emanuel Massano (FCCN) and Eoin Kenny (HEAnet). Their expertise and perspectives will be valuable additions to the committee’s ongoing work.

At the same time, we extend our sincere thanks to Ana Pinto (FCCN) and Ronan Byrne (HEAnet), who are stepping down from their roles. In particular, we would like to acknowledge Ronan’s dedicated leadership as NIAC Chair, guiding the committee through a critical phase of network expansion and international engagement. Their commitments and insights have been instrumental in shaping the future of GÉANT, and we are grateful for their service to the community.
